SIR PAUL MORGAN JOINS INDEPENDENT EVALUATION

11th March 2022

Independent Evaluation is delighted to announce that Sir Paul Morgan has joined our panel of Evaluators. Sir Paul brings with him a wealth of experience acquired over a very successful career at the Bar and an equally successful and impressive fourteen year term as a High Court Judge.  Sir Paul sat in the Chancery Division and dealt with some of the civil justice system’s most complex litigation in areas including general commercial litigation, company law, partnership, insolvency, trusts, intellectual property, real property, wills and succession, pensions and charities. Sir Paul also sat in the Upper Tribunal (both the Tax and Chancery Chamber and the Lands Chamber), the Competition Appeal Tribunal and the Administrative Court. On his retirement from the Bench, he joined Wilberforce Chambers, and was instantly in demand as an arbitrator and mediator.

Sir Paul’s extensive judicial experience, combined with his work in mediation ADR, makes him an ideal person to evaluate and facilitate the optimal resolution of disputes.  All parties involved in a dispute can benefit from his forensic analysis and realistic view of the likely outcome at trial, without the need to go to the time and expense of a full trial.

Sir Paul’s appointment with IE significantly expands our areas of expertise, allowing us to offer Evaluations in a wider range of commercial disputes, including those between shareholders, partners and joint owners, as well as non-commercial cases including disputes over wills and succession or the ownership and occupation of property. His experience has convinced him of the real need for a service which combines the benefits of Early Neutral Evaluation and mediation, particularly where the parties have become entrenched so that they are unable to make progress towards a settlement, or where the dispute has become acrimonious and the parties run the real risk of ending up with an unaffordable bill for costs.
