During that time, Sir Paul dealt with all aspects of litigation in the Chancery Division, including general commercial litigation, company law, partnership, insolvency, trusts, intellectual property, real property, wills and succession, pensions and charities.

In addition to his primary role in the Chancery Division, Sir Paul also sat in the Upper Tribunal (both the Tax and Chancery Chamber and the Lands Chamber), the Competition Appeal Tribunal and the Administrative Court.

As a barrister, Sir Paul specialised in property law and related areas of the law such as insolvency and professional negligence. Immediately following his retirement as a judge, Sir Paul joined Wilberforce Chambers as an arbitrator and mediator.
