Darryl Allen QC was called to the Bar in 1995 and took silk in 2014. He has specialised in personal injury and clinical negligence litigation throughout his career, acting for both claimants and defendants.

Darryl is a Deputy High Court Judge, sitting in the Queen’s Bench Division and the Administrative Court. He also sits as a Tribunal Judge dealing with Criminal Injuries Compensation appeals, and is the legal adviser to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal. He is a lead facilitator for the national training programme “Advocacy and The Vulnerable”.

Darryl is recommended as a leading barrister in personal injury work, acting on behalf of claimants and defendants in substantial and complex claims, catastrophic injury and high value fatal accident claims.

Darryl is also recommended as a leading barrister in clinical negligence, representing clients in cases covering a wide spectrum of medical accidents, including vast experience of claims alleging delayed diagnosis, surgical negligence and other failings, and is noted for his expertise in cases concerning brain and spinal surgery.

Darryl continues to combine part-time judicial roles with full-time practice as a barrister, dealing with countless high value and complex claims. He was an early adopter of Joint Settlement Meetings as a route to resolving high value disputes and, recognising the best interests of his clients, is a strong advocate for alternative dispute resolution and Independent Evaluation specifically.

Darryl has been Chair of the Personal Injuries Bar Association since 2018. He is a first class communicator, widely acknowledged for his ability to communicate with injured people, their families and commercial clients.
